Photography and the Web
University of North Texas CVAD
Tom Leininger, Instructor
This is the assignment that brings it all together into one place. You will create a website, preferably with WordPress, to display at least 2 different photo series, your video, a bio, contact information and statements to go with series of works.
WordPress is what will be demonstrated in class, you do not have to use it, but it will make your life much easier if you do. They list three hosts that work well with WordPress here.
What you need to have by next week is a custom URL (http://yourname.com) and a hosting service. There are a lot out there to choose from. One that allows for a student discount is Bluehost.com. You have to sign up for it with your student email to receive it. I am not connected with this service in any way and you are not required to choose Bluehost.
You will want to make sure you get the Akismet API for help with Spam.
You may want to purchase a theme to use on your website. Ray Gun, Graph Paper Press, Themeforest and this list and this list are some resources for purchasing reasonably priced themes. There are also free options, which is what we will start with in class.
Here are a few paid themes you might be interested in. Kin, PhotoPurePress, Village, Photo Nexus.
Hold off on buying any custom themes until we discuss the options available in class.
This project is due the first week of December.
